A CREAM SLICE FROM 2007
The Mercedes-Benz CLK AMG Black Series from 2003 is based on the F1 Safety Car and has a performance-enhanced V8 engine with 507 hp, newly designed axles, newly developed AMG threaded sports suspension and AMG high-performance braking system, all in all guaranteed driving dynamics at the highest level. Limited to just 700 units, the model of the C 209 series remains an exception.[ngg src=”galleries” ids=”3″ display=”basic_thumbnail” thumbnail_crop=”0″]
The interior of the CLK 63 AMG Black Series is no less intrusive. While the rear seats have given way to lined luggage trays and the grab handles above the window have been removed, there is space for closely fitting bucket seats for the driver and front passenger. Automatic climate control, electric windows and the navigation system are also available.
ADDITIONAL COOLER FOR GEAR DIFFERENTIAL AND ENGINE OIL
The Black Series model from Affalterbach, however, includes all technical optimizations. The naturally aspirated engine was increased from 481 to 507 hp, and an additional cooler for gear differential and engine oil was installed. Compared to the production model, the rear axle ratio is six percent shorter, and the seven-speed automatic is now around 20 percent faster than in the previous automatic sport mode. In the manual gearshift mode of the transmission, there is also no automatic up or down shifting. However, there was never a purely manual shift, which was often desired for a sports car.
The newly developed coilover suspension of the Mercedes-Benz CLK 63 AMG Black Series can be completely adjusted. Solid strut braces support the struts against each other and give the model more rigidity.
CLK 63 AMG BLACK SERIES WITH 507 HP AND 630 NM TORQUE
The CLK 63 AMG Black Series model with a weight of 1.8 tons has a V8 vacuum cleaner with a displacement of 6,208 cm³ (M 156 E 63 V8 petrol engine), with an output of 373 kW / 507 hp at 6,800 rpm. The maximum torque of 630 Nm is reached at 5,250 rpm. While AMG specifies the model’s acceleration to 100 km / h in 4.1 seconds, the model locks off electronically at 300 km / h. The consumption of the then 141,610 euro model was 15.9 liters of Super per 100 km. Speaking of price: compared to the 481-hp CLK 63 AMG for 89,900 euros, the limited “Black Series†cost just under 50,000 euros more.
Compared to the normal CLK AMG with its 481 hp, the Black Series Edition from AMG can only be compared to a very limited extent, however, the relationship to the safety car of the then F1 season of 2003 is too close. The front alone is torn open for better ventilation, the fenders widened and pierced by gills.
The CLK with the dark soul
Even if the model was not politically correct and consumed too much when it was introduced in 2007, a Black Series model continues to fascinate to this day. If everything fits, the potent CLK offers an experience of a special kind – whereby the suction V8 with its force of 630 Newton meters can pull on the tarmac so violently that the traction control has a lot to do. So the “ Black Series †chases forward as if there was no tomorrow – and while you are still thinking about where you could extend the thing, the speedometer needle is already passing the 200 km / h mark.
